Mobile Pantries: Crossing Food Deserts to Meet the Need

In the old days, it was up to people in need to find their way to a food pantry, even if they didn’t have a car. Today the pantries come to them.

That’s because the Mobile Food Pantry delivery model, which Feeding America West Michigan pioneered in the late 90s, has gone nationwide. It’s bringing fresh fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods to communities where such foods are scarce — from Flint to California.

That’s especially critical now, as up to 1 million people could lose their federal food assistance this year. Read more at CivilEats.com.
