Latest Research Shows American Hunger Still Widespread

It’s true: The economy is a lot better than it was a few years ago. But it’s also true that millions of Americans are still struggling to meet their basic needs.

Feeding America’s annual Map the Meal Gap study shows that 48 million Americans are food insecure. That’s 1 in 6. And while rates of food insecurity vary state to state, not a single county is free from hunger.

Contrary to the stereotypes of poverty in our culture, people in rural communities, not urban communities, are at the highest risk of hunger. In fact, rural counties make up nearly two-thirds of counties in the top 10 for child food insecurity.
